Turon: Sweet Banana Spring Rolls with Caramel Crisp
Street corners, recess breaks, and after-school walks — turon tastes like childhood. The sugar blisters into a thin glassy crust that crackles when you bite.
Ingredients
- 12 spring roll wrappers
- 6 ripe saba bananas, halved lengthwise
- 1/2 cup jackfruit (langka), sliced (optional)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Roll each saba half in brown sugar. Add a bit of jackfruit, then wrap snugly in spring roll wrapper.
- Seal the edge with a dab of water.
- Fry in medium oil until light golden.
- Sprinkle a spoonful of sugar into the pan; let it melt and coat turon for a caramel finish. Fry until deep golden and crisp.
