Banana Cue: The 5-Minute Filipino Snack Staple

The easiest merienda on earth: hot oil, brown sugar, and ripe saba. The sugar turns to caramel and hugs the bananas like candy.

Ingredients

  • 10 ripe saba bananas, peeled
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Oil for frying
  • Bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Heat oil on medium. Add brown sugar and let it start melting.
  2. Add saba and toss gently until evenly coated and caramelized.
  3. Skewer two bananas per stick and let cool slightly before serving.

Serving Tip

Best enjoyed with hot rice and shared with family.
